Service Description

Workshop Overview: The Physician’s Emergency Procedures Course is a recognized offering with an excellent reputation. PEP-C focuses exclusively on high-value, low-frequency, evidence-based emergent intervention training. Participants who attend this course engage in a comprehensive hands-on experience, with strictly limited participant ratios, giving you tremendous value for your time. PEP-C also gracefully exposes you to consented, fresh (non-fixed, non-frozen) human specimens, highly experienced professionals, and a long list of demanding procedures. This course is orchestrated to dissect, explain, and train through emergent bleeding control (digital-pressure, wound-packing, tourniquet usage, junctional bleeding control, and REBOA); airway and ventilation management (BLS - NPA, OPA, BVM and supraglottic usage. ALS - video and direct laryngoscopy, bronchoscopy, and cricothyroidotomy); vascular access (IV – peripheral, cut-down and exchange access; IO – manual, mechanically assisted, and powered; as well as central venous cannulation and GAHP), thoracic injury management (anterior and lateral needle decompression, simple thoracostomy, tube thoracostomy, pericardiocentesis, and resuscitative thoracotomy), fundamental suturing and securing, as well as basic procedural ultrasound usage (IOU, vascular access). Participants actively locate, visualize, mobilize, and explore the freshly dissected anatomy of the neck, chest, abdomen, and extremities to better appreciate the efficacy and impact of interventions on the human body. The goal of this course is to improve indication and anatomic recognition while simultaneously offering valuable hands-on experience. Continuing Medical Education This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint providership of The University of Texas at San Antonio and the Centre for Emergency Health Sciences.
